Sunday, February 7, 2021

Carmen Corpus Garza, 90, was called by Our Lord on Friday, January 29, 2021 in Reedville, Texas.

Carmen was born on April 16, 1930 in Maxwell, TX. She is the daughter of Lazaro and Carmen Corpus.

She is survived by her two (2) children, Pete Garza III (Michelle) and David Garza; three (3) grandchildren, Crystal (Juan) Hernandez, Alexandria (Raymond) Lacombe, and Sara Garza; and six (6) great-grandchildren; her brother Larry Corpus, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Carmen was preceded in death by her husband Pete Garza Jr.; sisters Virginia Corpus and Lily Serna and brothers Vicente and Alex Corpus.

She lived her life to serve her church and her family. Carmen was a member of the Guadalupanas and the

San Marcos Homemakers. As a Guadalupana, her life-long devotion was to encourage a deeper understanding of the Catholic faith, as well as a greater devotion and recognition of our Lady of Guadalupe. Carmen was very well attuned to her community needs and current affairs. As such, she was inquisitive and business oriented as she and her husband successfully owned a Dairy Queen restaurant in San Antonio, Texas for over 22 years. She was more than just a boss to many of her young employees. They considered her a mentor, and many of them maintained close contact with her after they had graduated high school and had moved on with their adult life. After this adventure, she and Pete Jr. started a mobile-home park in Reedville, Texas that is now managed by her children. Carmen, also known as the Dairy Queen Lady, was well-known for her cooking and made sure that people a nourishing meal – one did not leave her home hungry.

Carmen looked forward to special occasions where the family could get together and create ever-lasting memories. She will be missed but we know that she is now with her family in heaven. A private memorial service honoring Carmen’s life will be held at Pennington Funeral Home in San Marcos, Texas.
