John Winston Spellmann, Sr

October 3, 1941- February 25, 2020
Thursday, February 27, 2020

John Winston Spellmann went to be with our Heavenly Father on February 25, 2020, at the age of 78 surrounded by his loving family.  He was born to Homer and Velma Spellmann on October 3, 1941 in Ft. Worth, Texas.  He spent his younger life in Seguin, Texas, where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Doris Ann Hoermann.  John received his PhD in mathematics from Emory University.  He spent over 40 years impacting numerous lives with his passion for math at Texas A&M, Pan American University and at Southwest Texas State University/Texas State University where he retired.  He had such a positive influence on all he touched not only the college students but also his own children and grandchildren.  Mathematics was his joy. Math was such an interest as it led to his intrigue with the stock market.  The market was his ultimate pastime in his retirement years.  He could talk the market trends like no one else.

John had varying interests during his life and one he loved the most was spending time with family. Family was his world!  He cherished one on one time with each member of his family and made each one feel treasured.  He graciously offered his gift of knowledge to tutor his grandchildren and friends in math.  John found comfort in his work at St. Vincent de Paul, not only with his clients, but all with whom he came in contact.

He was preceded in death by his parents and will be remembered by his loving wife of over 60 years Doris Ann Spellmann of San Marcos, son John W. Spellmann Jr. and wife Gerrie of Universal City, Texas, daughter Cheri Ann Whitlock and husband Tommy of McAllen, Texas, grandchildren Avery Spellmann, Erich Spellmann, Tanya Whitlock and Ryan Whitlock, great-grandchildren Baylee, Wyatt and Weston.
