Robert L. Boy

Robert L. Boyd

Wednesday, May 8, 2019

Bob passed away on May 8, 2019 at home.  He was born on October 9, 1931 in Manor, Georgia.  He was the oldest of seven boys born to Alvin and Aline Boyd.  Immediately after graduating from high school he enlisted in the Navy and served on the ship USS Menelaus in the Mediterranean Ocean.  He visited the Greek Parthenon, Spanish bull fights, French cabarets and Italian historical sites.  After being discharged from the Navy, he enlisted in the Air Force.  Upon passing an entrance exam, he became a commissioned officer and a pilot.  He enjoyed flying and continued as a private pilot for many years.

When he got out of the Air Force, he worked as a car salesman and won several sales awards.  He then opened a boat store in Florida and took part in speed boat racing on the ocean from Florida to the Bahamas.  After selling the boat business, he moved to San Marcos and bought a ranch on Hilliard Road with the thought of retirement, he ultimately became a real estate developer and continued running the business into 2019.

Bob was an avid golfer and hunter.  He enjoyed many years as a member of Quail Creek Country Club, playing golf three days a week.  He hunted in Colorado, New Mexico and Texas.

He was father to two children, Brooke and Robbie, and stepfather to two children, Shelley Wright and Bart McPherson.  Brooke preceded him in death.  He served as grandfather to five, Dylan, Brooke, Audrey, Chaz, and Tre.

Bob married Sherryl 36 years ago on April 22.  They spent their years together traveling, building their business and caring for each other, children and grandchildren.

He was a loving, kind and thoroughly decent old fashioned gentleman who loved life and his family.  He will be greatly missed.

Funeral arrangements are through Pennington Funeral Home with a service planned at First United Methodist Church, San Marcos on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 11:00 a.m.
