Velia Teneyuque

Our beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, godmother, and friend Velia Teneyuque went home to paradise on Sunday. November 29, 2020 in Kyle, Texas.

Velia was 76 years old, born to the late Luis "El Shorty" Flores & Julia Cerda Flores in the country community of Redwood, Texas. A strong, hard working woman from the age of sixteen, she helped her family by working the cotton fields, having to quit high school so her younger siblings could remain in school and get their education. Many people want to forget their struggles and field work, but Velia never forgot where she came from. She may have not enjoyed her early life, but she never forgot her roots.

In the early 1960s, she began working in the laundry department, then in the cafeteria at San Marcos Baptist Academy. She began her fourteen year chapter at Hillside Manor nursing home in 1969, starting as a CNA. Then she attended San Antonio College and was certified as a Medication Administrator. While at Hillside, she made several lifelong friendships that were very dear to her. In 1984 she worked at Southside Community Center where she first served as secretary, then helped establish and became director of a Community Daycare center for low income families. In 1987 through 1992, she worked for Community Action, Inc as an intake clerk. She took a different career path for the next three years and worked as a baker and deli assistant at Texan grocery store which later became Handy Andy. In 1995 she was given an opportunity to be a head baker for the new Walmart Supercenter in Seguin, Texas, the first to open in the area. She remained there until 2005 when she retired after suffering a stroke. After that, she spent the rest of her life being a housewife and enjoying life with her family. Her favorite activity was road trips; in her lifetime, she visited eighteen states. Her last big trip was visiting her brother's family in Seattle, Washington in 2015. She also enjoyed going to Mexico for shopping. Twice a year, the family made a pilgrimage to the Rio Grande Valley to visit the Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan del Valle National Shrine. October 2020 was her last trip there to light a candle.

Velia had diabetes and had dialysis treatments at the DaVita Dialysis Center in Kyle, Texas. She hadn't wanted to to start the treatments but made the difficult decision as knowing they would help her.

She fought a hard battle until the end. Once doctors informed her and her family of her fate, she and her family were able to say their goodbyes. She called eleven family members, wished them good luck, said she loved them, and that she was going to Heaven. She was one strong woman and a fighter until the end.

Velia was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Mary Duran, brothers Gilberto "Chico" Flores, Joe "Pacho" Flores, Enrique "Henry" Flores; and her nephews Alex Huerta, Bobby Belcher, and Mario Rodriguez Jr.

Survivors include her husband of fifty-six years, Florentino Teneyuque; sons Hector and Fabian Teneyuque of San Marcos; daughter Schabrian "Shay" Gomez-Bambic (Max); sisters Angie Rios and Dee Dee Rodriguez both of San Marcos; numerous nephews, nieces, and a grandpuppy, Holt Bambic.

Serving as pallbearers are: Manuel Duran Jr, Bobby Flores, Danny Navarro, Ramiro Teneyuque, Juan Ramirez and Joe Caldera. Honorary Pallbearers are: John Rios, and Oscar Durán,

Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 6, 2020 followed by a Recitation of Holy Rosary held at 7:00 p.m. at Los Angeles Funeral Home, 300 Cheatham St., San Marcos, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 7, 2020 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 624 E. Hopkins, San Marcos, TX. Interment will follow at Memory Lawn Memorial Park in Martindale, Texas.
