New U.S. Rep voted against paying federal workers

Letter to the Editor
Wednesday, January 16, 2019

Editor,

Constituents in the U. S. House of Representatives District 21 should be aware that our newly-elected Republican representative Chip Roy was one of seven representatives who voted against S. 24, the Government Employees Fair Treatment Act of 2019. This bill, which passed overwhelmingly, requires that federal employees who are furloughed or required to work during a lapse of appropriations be compensated. Senator Majority leader Mitch McConnell said President Trump would sign the bill.

It seems only fair that federal workers be compensated for their work when our government is so dysfunctional. It is disappointing that Rep. Roy would vote against this and I urge that we the public and the Express News closely follow his voting record.

Sincerely,

Ruth A. Libby
