SMDR to begin mail delivery August 22

EDITORIAL
Sunday, August 6, 2023

Informing our community is our passion at the San Marcos Daily Record, as we have done for nearly 112 years. Since 1912, we have told the stories at the heart of San Marcos and Hays County, and we have every intention of continuing to do so for a long time.

However, it is no secret that the newspaper industry is in flux. The realities of today’s digital world have made it easier for us to reach our readers.

More people read the San Marcos Daily Record today than they have in our entire existence.

But, that same reach has also opened up new avenues for advertisers, leaving us an increasingly smaller portion of the pie. In our ongoing efforts to provide you with the highest quality news content while also ensuring the sustainability of our operations, we are excited to announce a significant change in how we deliver the newspaper to your doorstep.

Starting August 22, 2023, we will be transitioning from our current carrier-based delivery system to a more cost-effective mail delivery system. This change is a strategic decision aimed at optimizing our resources and improving the overall efficiency of our operations.

While we recognize the personal touch that our carriers have brought to your newspaper delivery, the economic realities require us to explore more efficient options.

By making this transition to mail delivery, we anticipate substantial cost savings, which will help us mitigate the need for immediate, and substantial, subscription cost increases.

We understand that change can bring about questions and concerns, and we want to assure you that this decision has been carefully considered to ensure a seamless transition. We understand that many people enjoy waking up in the morning with their newspaper on the front doorstep. Having the newspaper delivered with your mail will change the timing of when you get your news each day, but there are many benefits as well.

Because the mail is not delivered on Sunday, the weekend newspaper will actually show up on Saturday with your mail instead.

Know that you can access the digital version of your newspaper emailed to your inbox everyday at 6 a.m. That is included in the price of every subscription. Visit sanmarcosrecord. com and click on the “Log In” button at the top of the page. Entering your email in the form at the bottom will allow you to register for the digital e-Edition.

Additionally, we love our San Marcos Post Office. The best part of this news is that it won’t impact the information we put into the paper.

Our deadlines won’t change, because the post office has integrated plans to allow us to get same day delivery of the newspaper.

While we know there will be some hiccups in the beginning, long-term the post office offers a highly dependable and consistent method of receiving your newspaper at a cost far below what we are currently paying to get the Daily Record to your home.

We are working diligently to ensure that the transition to mail delivery will not disrupt your access to the latest news and stories.

You can continue to expect the same high-quality journalism and coverage that you have come to rely on from the San Marcos Daily Record.

We genuinely appreciate your continued support as we navigate this change. Our subscribers are at the heart of everything we do, and we are dedicated to providing you with a smooth and seamless transition.
