It was a goals-galore Thursday night as the Texas State Bobcats knocked off the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers 4-0.

Coming off a 1-0 loss to Georgia State last weekend, Thursday night represented an opportunity to refocus and be aggressive on offense for senior forward Olivia Wright.

“Just being goal hungry,” Wright said. “That’s what we wanted to do in this game. We wanted to come back and be positive about what we have been doing this weekend. We were back at home and we wanted to get that W.”

With 19 shots against the Chanticleers with 11 being on goal as well as limiting Coastal Carolina to just four shots the entire game, it was a complete game for Head Coach Steve Holeman.

“It was a total team effort,” Holeman said. “We played well in all phases of the game. Our attack was really good and our defense was fantastic. … Just a complete game from start to finish.”

The Bobcats started off aggressive as Texas State maintained possession for nearly the entire first half.

Wright kicked things off for the Bobcats as the senior found the back of the net off the assist from forward Zoe Junior in the 25 minute to put the Bobcats up 1-0.

Holding a 1-0 lead at halftime, Texas State was in similar position in their last home game against Troy where the Bobcats also held a 1-0 lead at halftime only to end the game with a 1-1 tie.

“We talked about that at halftime,” Holeman said. “They (Coastal) knew we were up 1-0 on Troy where the second half wasn’t good enough for us. But we did a really good job in the second half about continuing to press. It was nice to stay solid throughout the entire game.”

In the 50th minute, freshman midfielder Victoria Meza, who missed the previous three games after being called up to the El Salvador National Women’s Team, extend the lead for the Bobcats scoring the goal to put Texas State up 2-0.

Six minutes later, Madi Goss took advantage of the penalty kick and delivered a screamer past the goalkeeper to put the Bobcats up 3-0.

Wright finished off the game with her second goal of the game as Texas State put away Coastal 4-0.

“Everybody was focused,” Wright said. “We had the goal of winning this game and continuing to be consistent. Everyone was on the same page wanting to be positive and connecting today.”

Texas State will look to add another win to their record as the Bobcats travel to Monroe to take on the Louisiana Monroe Warhawks.

Kickoff is at 1 p.m. today.
