Texas State dropped its series finale against Appalachian State, 3-0, on Sunday inside Beaver Field in Boone, N.C.

The Mountaineers (11-15, 4-5 Sun Belt) took a 1-0 lead against the Bobcats (18-10, 6-3) with a solo home run by senior shortstop Joel McDaniel in the second inning.

Texas State advanced a runner to third base three times in the first five innings but couldn’t tie the game.

App State extended its advantage to 3-0 with RBI singles from sophomore center fielder Alex Leshock freshman second baseman Luke Drumheller in the fifth inning.

Texas State had an opportunity to stage a late rally in the ninth. Junior Cole Coffey began the frame with a walk. Senior third baseman Jaylen Hubbard singled to put two runners on. But the Bobcats couldn’t tie the game and saw their six-game winning streak snapped.

Hubbard and junior second baseman Jaxon Williams tallied four of Texas State’s five hits on Sunday. The four hits all came without a runner on base. The Bobcats went 1-for-17 with runners on base and went hitless with runners in scoring position.

Senior right-hand pitcher Connor Reich took the loss for the Bobcats. He struck out seven and gave up only one walk, but he allowed three runs on four hits. Senior pitcher Brandon Boone earned the win for App State. He pitched five shutout innings and tallied seven strikeouts.

Texas State hosts two midweek games, beginning with UTSA at 6 p.m. on Tuesday inside Bobcat Ballpark and Sam Houston State on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
