Bobcats fall to Nevada, rebound against No. 24 Missouri State

Following its opening night win over Utah, Texas State split its final two games of the weekend. 

The Bobcats fell to Nevada, 4-0, inside Bobcat Ballpark on Saturday. Texas State rebounded with a 10-0 win over No. 24 Missouri State on Sunday. 

On Saturday, the Bobcat attack struggled, only producing four hits. Three of Texas State’s four hits were singles, while senior third baseman Jaylen Hubbard hit a two-out double in the ninth to record the Bobcats’ lone extra base hit of the game. 

Redshirt sophomore pitcher Hunter McMahon (0-1) took the loss. McMahon hurled four strikeouts during five innings on the mound. But he gave up three runs, four hits and four walks. 

Freshman pitcher Owen Sharts secured the win for the Wolf Pack. Sharts pitched seven shutout innings and only gave up three hits. 

Texas State’s offense bounced back on Sunday. The Bobcats scored its 10 runs against Missouri State on nine hits. 

Senior righty Connor Reich put together a strong outing on the mound. He tallied seven strikeouts in 6.2 innings of shutout work. He began the game by retiring the first 15 Bears. 

Texas State was set for a midweek game against No. 15 Baylor on Tuesday at Bobcat Ballpark but the game was cancelled because of inclement weather. The Bobcats return to the diamond at the Lake Area Classic in Lake Charles, La. Texas State plays two games on Friday against Creighton at 2 p.m. and McNeese at 6 p.m.

Bobcat Softball: Texas State goes 3-2 at Troy Cox Classic

The Bobcats traveled to Las Cruces, N.M to participate in the Troy Cox Classic. 

Texas State began tournament play with a 12-3 six-inning win on Friday over San Jose State. The Bobcats suffered their first setback of the weekend on Friday night against New Mexico State in a 7-4 loss. 

Texas State rebounded on Saturday with a 11-3 six-inning win over Montana. But the Bobcats fell later that day to Bradley, 12-10. 

Texas State finished the weekend with a 7-5 victory over Montana. 

The Bobcats return to action on Wednesday against Sam Houston State at 5 p.m. inside Bobcat Softball Stadium.
