One of the biggest games in recent memory will take place this Saturday afternoon as Texas State travels to Lafayette to take on longtime nemesis Louisiana.

As the Bobcats are coming into the Saturday showdown with the best start in program history since 2005, Head Coach G.J. Kinne noted that the team is ready for the highly anticipated showdown.

“Everyone is excited about this Saturday,” Kinne said. “They are ready to have the opportunity to go upset a team on the road” Louisiana comes into the matchup with a 3-2 record with wins over Northwestern State, UAB and Buffalo while losing to Old Dominion and Minnesota.

With Texas State joining the Sun Belt back in 2013, the Bobcats and the Ragin’ Cajuns have played ten consecutive games with Louisiana holding a 10-0 record.

But despite the lack of success against the Ragin’ Cajuns, Kinne isn’t worried about the off the field extracurriculars.

“That’s always tough because they are a really good team,” Kinne said. “People keep bringing up about being 0-10 but I was in another state ten years ago and some of these kids were in elementary school. All that stuff doesn’s bother me. … We have so many new guys that I don’t think any of that stuff matters. Obviously you have to go out there and do your job and that’s what this thing is about.”

Louisiana is led by freshmen quarterback Zeon Chriss who leads team with 595 yards passing with four touchdowns and four interceptions along with 28 carries for 260 yards and four touchdowns.

“I think that guy is special,” Kinne said. “I recruited him a little bit when he was in high school. He is a big time player and a true dual threat. You can see the arm talent is there and he throws really well on the run. He’s dynamic with the ball in his hands.”

Louisiana offense is averaging 35.8 points per game while the defense is allowing 29 points per game compared to Texas State 43.4 points per game and 29 points allowed per game.

Kickoff for Texas State-Louisiana is set for 2:30 Saturday afternoon at Cajun Field in Lafayette, Louisiana.

The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPNU.
