Texas State secured a 2-1 victory over Louisiana-Monroe on Friday at the ULM Softball Complex in Monroe, La.

The Bobcats (13-15, 3-4 Sun Belt) quickly jumped on top of the Warhawks (4-24, 1-6) in the first inning. Junior second base Bailee Carter drew a one-out walk and then stole second. Junior shortstop Tara Oltmann ripped an RBI double to bring home Carter.

Oltmann extended Texas State’s lead to 2-0 in the third inning when she lifted a solo home run over the left-field wall.

But ULM didn’t go down quietly. The Warhawks cut the Bobcat advantage in half in the fifth inning after senior Sydney McKay hit an RBI single down the right-field line. ULM loaded the bases but Texas State senior pitcher Krista Jacobs forced a pop fly to end the frame.

The Bobcats kept the Warhawks off the board for the final two innings to earn the 2-1 victory.

Sophomore pitcher Meagan King picked up the win on the mound after 4.2 innings of work. King only allowed one earned run on six hits. She tallied two strikeouts during Friday’s outing.

Oltmann led Texas State at the plate with a 2-for-3 outing and one walk. She brought home both Bobcat runs.

Friday’s win extended Texas State’s winning streak to three games. The Bobcats continued their three-game series against ULM on Saturday. The game ended after press time.
