Rattlers square off with East Central for final playoff spot

Tuesday, October 24, 2023

It was a rough night for the San Marcos Rattlers Volleyball team as they fell in the final home game of the year against New Braunfels, 3-0 (25-21, 2516, 25-15).

But the season is not over yet as San Marcos makes the trip down I-35 for the final game of the regular season against the East Central Hornets.

Not only is the showdown with the Hornets the regular season finale, the game will also determine the final playoff spot in District 27.

With San Marcos taking the first game at 3-2, a win over the Hornets will clinch the Rattlers their fourth straight playoff berth.

But a loss to the Hornets will force a needed tiebreaker game to determine the final playoff spot.

Tip-off is at 7 p.m. at East Central High School.

Bobcats shutout by South Alabama.

The Texas State soccer team were unable to nab a point last Sunday as the Bobcats fell to the undefeated South Alabama Jaguars 4-0.

The Jaguar defense kept the Bobcats at bay as Texas State was held to six shots throughout the entire game with two being on goal along with three corner kicks.

The Jaguar offense was just as potent with 13 shots with seven being on goal along with 10 corner kicks.

Bobcats return to play this Thursday for both the final regular season game of the year and the final home game of the year as Texas State hosts Southern Miss.

Area Football Update

It was a big week in Hays County as the 2023 regular season continues to trudge on.

Wimberley marched closer to their third consecutive district championship as the Texans knocked off longtime rival Navarro, 48-20.

The win improves Wimberley’s record to 8-0 as the Texans will have the opportunity to seal the district championship against Lago Vista.

Up the road on Ranch Road 12, Dripping Springs added another win to their resume as the Tigers defeated arch-rival Lake Travis, 24-6, to improve their record to 6-2 overall.

The Tigers have all ready locked up the number one seed in the Division II bracket, as they look to add on to their win total on the road against Austin Del Valle.

Kyle Lehman picked up their first district win of the season as the Lobos blew out the San Antonio MacArthur Brahmas, 420.

It was the Lobos first district win since the 2020 season when Lehman defeated San Antonio Mc-Collum.
