Senior defensive end Jordan Revels was selected to the 2023 Preseason All-Sun Belt Second Team as the Sun Belt Conference announced on Monday its preseason awards ahead of its annual media days.

Revels, a Houston product, was the lone Bobcat voted to the preseason all-conference team by the conference’s coaches.

He is coming off a career year in 2022 in which he personal-bests in tackles, tackles for loss (TFLs) and sacks.

A constant presence in the opponent’s backfield, Revels had 11.0 TFLs (second- best on the team), 10 quarterback hurries (best) and 4.5 sacks (third-best) in 12 games.

In 2022, Revels was named to the PFF All-Sun Belt Second Team as an edge rusher and to the Phil Steele All-Sun Belt Fourth Team.

He was also tabbed to the Bednarik Award Watch List, which is the award given to the best defensive player in college football.

Entering 2023, Revels– who will move back to defensive end after playing as an outside linebacker last season–is top-10 in Texas State history in quarterback hurries (seventh with 22) and is approaching the career lists in sacks (7.5) and TFLs (23.0). In 43 career games, Revels has 187 tackles, two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble.

The Sun Belt also released its preseason coaches poll on Monday, which had the Bobcats picked fifth in the West Division.

Reigning conference champion Troy was voted as the preseason pick to win the conference after receiving 10 first-place votes.

South Alabama, JMU and App State each earned four first-place votes. Sun Belt Media Days were set for Tuesday and today, with Texas State and the rest of the West Division taking center stage on Tuesday.

The Bobcats held a press conference, with head coach GJ Kinne, safety Tory Spears and offensive lineman Nash Jones, that aired at 1:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
