Another solid pitching performance from the San Marcos pitchers clinched the series win over Schertz Clemens in a 5-1 victory.

The Rattlers used only two pitchers in the game with Reagan Chomel getting the start and Albert Santos closing out the game.

Chomel finished his start going 3.1 innings and allowing just three hits, one run, three walks and throwing two strikeouts.

Santos closed out the game for San Marcos coming in for relief in the fourth inning finishing the game by allowing just five hits, zero runs, one walk and throwing six strikeouts.

The Rattlers took advantage of both a walk and a hit by pitch at-bat, who both advanced to an extra base, in the first inning as Kutter Gage hit into the fielder’s choice to score Gavin Gomez from third base to take an early 1-0 lead.

Chomel laid down the sacrifice bunt to score Dallas Calderon as San Marcos went up 2-0.

Two Rattler errors in the bottom of the first inning allowed one run to come across for the Buffaloes on an RBI single towards left field as Schertz Clemens cut the lead down to 2-1.

Facing a loaded bases situation with one out, San Marcos turned the classic 6-4-3 double play to keep Schertz-Clemens off the board and get out of the inning.

After a scoreless second inning, San Marcos made the best of their two out hitting.

As both runners advanced to second and third following a Buffaloes’ wild pitch, Stephen Wilder came through in the clutch with a bloop single to score both runners and extend the lead to 4-1.

Clemens threatened to score again in the bottom of the third inning following a single and a walk with one out.

But the Rattlers kept the Buffaloes off the board and ended the inning with a strikeout and a fly out towards right field.

The bottom of the fifth inning saw Clemens load the bases once again with only two outs.

San Marcos held strong and turned the groundout to end the inning and once again kept the Buffaloes off the scoreboard once more.

In the sixth inning, San Marcos took advantage of patient at bats and drew back to back walks by Wilder and Ryan Hix.

Major Pellien tacked on another run with an RBI double towards right field as the Rattlers extended the lead at 5-1.

San Marcos couldn’t extend the lead further as Clemens turned the double play and converted a groundout to get out of the inning.

The Buffaloes again tried to cut into the Rattler lead but Clemens fell in order 1-2-3 to end the 6th inning.

Clemens had one last attempt to potentially steal the win in the seventh inning in their last at-bat.

But Santos held strong, throwing three strikeouts in the final inning to shut the door on a Buffaloes’ comeback.

San Marcos returns to district play for a two game series against the Cibolo Steele Knights.

Game one will be at home Tuesday night in San Marcos while game two will be at Cibolo Steele on Friday night.

Both first pitches start at 7 p.m.
