Tuesday, May 2, 2023

Texas State finished off their weekend series on a high note as the Bobcats defeated the Marshall Thundering Herd 9-1 to win the overall series.

With the win, the Bobcats sit firmly in fifth place in the Sun Belt Conference Standings with the SBC Conference Tournament quickly approaching.

Following a scoreless first two innings, the Bobcats struck first blood as shortstop Hannah Earls kicked off the inning with a leadoff triple.

Left fielder Cierra Trahan scored Earls with a fielder’s choice as the Bobcats took a 1-0 lead.

After a single into center field by third baseman Sara Vanderford, Texas State struck again as catcher Karmyn Bass hit an RBI double as the Bobcats extended the lead to 2-0.

Marshall responded with a leadoff triple followed by a sac fly to score the run as the Herd cut the lead down to 2-1.

Following a scoreless fourth inning, the Bobcats put a runner in scoring position via a single by Earls who then advanced to second with two outs.

Vanderford then slammed a two-run home run into left field as the Bobcats extended the lead to 4-1.

But the Bobcats were not done yet as back to back singles by Bass and outfielder Anna Jones put runners on first and second with two outs.

Second baseman Katrina Zarate scored another run for Texas State with a RBI single as the Bobcats went up 5-1.

Texas State then forced two consecutive walks to score in another run as the lead was pushed to 6-1.

The Bobcats tacked on three more runs in the sixth inning as Texas State closed the door on a Marshall comeback winning in dominant fashion 9-1.

Texas State returns home for the final home game of the season as the Bobcats host James Madison.

This will be the first ever meeting between the Dukes and Bobcats with JMU moving into the Sun Belt last year.

First pitch is Thursday at 6 p.m. from Bobcat Softball Stadium.
