Playoff baseball is upon us once more as the San Marcos Rattlers look to win their first playoff game since 2018 as they square off with the San Antonio Churchill Chargers It’s been an historic season for the Rattlers who bounced back from a 1817-1 record last season to a 22-9-1 record this year, which included winning the district championship for the first time since 2010.
As for the Chargers, Churchill is back in the playoffs following a fourth place finish in District 28 and finished the regular season with a 15-12-1 record.
“Coach Alfeiri’s teams are always tough,” Head Coach Bryan Webb said. “It’s his first year over there since moving over from MacArthur. They are going to compete very well. They have a couple of good arms and played the top teams in their district very tough. We are going to be in a tough battle going over there. The Northeast district is tough but we are going to be up for the challenge. We are healthy going into the playoffs. As we long as we do what we do, put the ball in play and throw strikes, we are going to have a pretty good shot.”
It was a tough battle for Churchill to nab a playoff spot as the Chargers were placed in what is considered to be one of the more tough districts that is also home to No. 2 San Antonio Johnson Jaguars and the No. 7 San Antonio Reagan Rattlers.
In the three game series, Game One will be hosted by Churchill today while Game Two will be hosted by San Marcos starting at 6 p.m.
If Game Three will be needed in the event both teams split the two games, the third game will be played Saturday at the Blossom Athletic Center in San Antonio at 1 p.m.
First pitch is 4:30 p.m. today at Northeast Sports Park in San Antonio.
