Truck fire snarls San Marcos traffic

Wednesday, October 30, 2019

An 18-wheeler caught on fire early Tuesday morning, resulting in a massive traffic slowdown on North Interstate 35.

The 18-wheeler fire occurred near Exit 206 — Aquarena Springs Dr. Traffic was reduced to one-lane for most of Tuesday causing northbound delays from as far as the outlet malls, approximately five miles away. The truck’s occupants were safe, according to the City of San Marcos.

Traffic was stymied after traffic was reduced to one-lane on the highway.

Traffic resumed normal flow around 2 p.m. The city, however, announced two additional traffic updates following the truck fire. The 18-wheeler involved in the fire struck the I-35 overpass at Guadalupe Street — Exit 204 — while being towed away. The Texas Department of Transportation was notified and was set to inspect the overpass to see if it needs to be shutdown. TXDoT had not shut down traffic at the overpass at press time Tuesday.

Workers helped clean Interstate 35 following an 18-wheeler fire on Tuesday.

A second accident occurred on North I-35 following the 18-wheeler. Two lanes of traffic were shut down following the second incident.
