Healing Hearts with local art
The healing process can often start by getting feelings out on paper. No matter what medium is used, the process of pouring out emotions through art in some form is cathartic and can mend a broken spirit. Cenikor, a national company with a local branch that provides drug and alcohol treatment services, has partnered with the San Marcos Arts League through the Project Awareness Intervention and Mobilization Program to host an art exhibit.

City launches Tree Removal Assistance Program
The city of San Marcos Community Forestry Program is now accepting applications for the Tree Removal Assistance Program. Funded through the U.S. Department of Treasury’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), the city was awarded $135,000 to aid low-income residential homeowners in removing unsafe, dying or dead trees over their homes with no out-of-pocket cost to the homeowner.

The late Emmett and Miriam McCoy, longtime benefactors of Texas State University for whom the McCoy College of Business is named, have been posthumously honored with the 2024 Texas Higher Education Distinguished Service Award for their extraordinary contributions and service to higher education in the state.

Local Texas Army National Guard troops to deploy

No matter the mission or location of deployment, they appreciate the support of the community. It is a difficult job that many are unable or unwilling to do but are benefited by in every way. Neighbor’s loud wind chimes have spoiled a quiet street
DEAR ABBY: I’m irritated by my neighbors, and I don’t know quite how to approach it. I live in a densely populated, but quiet, neighborhood. New neighbors moved in a couple of years ago, and after moving in, they hung a wind chime on their front porch. This isn’t your average wind chime. If I had to guess, the chimes are at least five feet long.
