Community program allows teachers to connect career shadowing to classrooms

Superintendent reviews district’s achievements, areas for improvement
Following the recent release of Texas Education Agency preliminary end of school testing results for the San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District, SMCISD Superintendent Michael Cardona said he had some thoughts to share regarding the high points in those statistics, as well as some of the varying achievements of district schools. He also noted areas where he said there is additional support needed.

Cicadas and Cicada Killer Wasps on the rise
The buzz this summer is that Central Texas is seeing an increase in the number of Cicadas noisily making their presence known here. And with more of these under foot, comes an accompanying increase in the number of Cicada Killer Wasps–a species that looks threatening but actually is not usually harmful to humans, according to one entomology expert with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.

County marriage licenses are now available online
Hays County residents can now apply for and receive a marriage license faster and more easily. The Hays County Clerk’s Office recently implemented the Gov-OS Remote Marriage License Issuance program, allowing those who may not be able to visit the clerk’s office in person to apply remotely for a license. Couples who complete the process are considered to have appeared before the court “We are very excited to offer this new program for our Hays County residents,” said County Clerk Elaine Cárdenas. “Serving our customers is at the core of every decision we make.”

Jury returns a guilty verdict in fentanyl case
Hays County District Attorney Kelly Higgins recently announced that a Hays County jury found Caden Farese guilty of possession of a controlled substance – fentanyl, a state jail felony. That jury subsequently sentenced him to 18 months in state jail.
