Tails, Paws, Scales, Oh My!
San Marcos CISD Travis Elementary School students spend a special day learning about snakes, scorpions, guinea pigs and so many other animals people keep as pets on National Pet Day, Tuesday, April 11. Students came to the school library where pets were brought in to help celebrate the joy that pets bring to their lives. People were invited to bring their pets to the library for the children to observe and learn about. Pets of all varieties were required to remain in enclosures, and had to be self-sufficient for the event.

Gay couple struggles with family’s odd estrangement
DEAR ABBY: I’m a gay man. My husband and I have been together almost nine years, married less than one. Seven years ago, my mother-in-law decided I was no longer “allowed” to speak to her or her family. When my husband asked her why, she was unable to give him a clear answer but insists it has nothing to do with us being gay. Anytime my husband mentions my name or the life we have together, she changes the subject. I offered to write her a letter, but my husband doesn’t think it would be a good idea. He used to be close to his family, but with each passing year the relationship becomes more strained.

THE ECONOMIST: Outlook for Texas Economy
It goes without saying that there’s a lot going on in the economy these days. The United States (and most of the rest of the world) is dealing with high (though moderating) inflation, rising interest rates, struggling industries and markets, geopolitical tensions, and a host of other uncertainties. Nonetheless, I remain optimistic regarding the potential for growth, although the path will probably not be as smooth as we would hope.
