Bills aimed at adding more natural gas power clear Senate
The Texas Senate on Wednesday approved two major bills aimed at building more on-demand power generators such as natural gas-fueled plants in the state. The goal of the bills, according to the sponsors, is to prevent another catastrophic power shortage like the one that killed more than 200 people in 2021 as freezing temperatures knocked power production offline and left millions of Texans shivering in the dark.

Schools, business show growth
San Marcos is in the midst of a growth spurt, and it is impacting schools and businesses. Heralded by the sounds of the San Marcos High School Varsity Mariachi Band, city officials addressed the public at 11 a.m. Thursday at the convention center to discuss how far growth has come and what may be done to accommodate the coming changes.

Grandma required to treat newcomer as one of her own
DEAR ABBY: My son is in a relationship with “Cheryl.” They live together. Cheryl has a daughter and is demanding that I treat the girl as one of my granddaughters. I have bought birthday presents, Christmas gifts and generally spend the same amount on all the kids. But I have been told that Cheryl doesn’t like what I buy her daughter and tosses the clothes at one of my other granddaughters who lives there and says, “Here! YOU take it. It’s ugly!”

New Kissing Tree art exhibit opens
The San Marcos Art League is hosting its newest showcase for the month of April, featuring artists and photographers of the Kissing Tree community. This stunning showcase will have a variety of works, including works using oils, acrylics, watercolors, mixed medias, photography, stained glass and more. The exhibition opened April 3 and entry is free.

Texas State finishes strong at Silverado Showdown, Sun Belt Championships up next for the Bobcats
On the final day of the Silverado Showdown, Texas State had their lowest round and climbed the leaderboard to finish 15th. Matilda Svahn led the Bobcats with a top-30 finish at the Silverado Resort and Spa.
