Editor, I wonder if Rey Garcia, the city engineer who oversaw the Victory Gardens Improvement Project ever came back to inspect all the flaws committed by the contractors hired by the city. And, I also wonder if the city paid them extra for taking a year longer to complete the project which in all actuality, they should have been penalized for each day they took longer to complete. No worries, the taxpayers can foot the bill. 10/23/2022 05:00 AM
Silent victims: The impact of domestic violence on children
Silent victims: The impact of domestic violence on children
The following article is part three of a five-week series focusing on raising awareness about domestic violence. October is Domestic Violence Awareness month, and we hope to educate our community on this very important issue. One-in-three women will experience domestic violence in their lifetime. Locally, the Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center has been serving victims of domestic and dating violence, sexual assault, and child abuse since 1978. Last year, HCWC served 2,055 victims of abuse (face-to-face) primarily from Hays and Caldwell Counties — 816 of those were victims of domestic violence. 10/16/2022 05:00 AM

Editor, Jane Hughson deserves to be reelected. She has been a critical force for the community for preservation of historic culture. Importantly, she has been an attentive force and watchdog for the calculated planned development of the city‘s ongoing growth. 10/16/2022 05:00 AM

Editor, This letter is my response to the front page article in your daily edition for Sept. 29. It regards the dispute between two county commissioners and Judge Ruben Becerra. 10/02/2022 05:00 AM

During Suicide Prevention Month, San Marcos Treatment Center reminds everyone: ‘You are not alone’
During Suicide Prevention Month, San Marcos Treatment Center reminds everyone: ‘You are not alone’
September marks Suicide Prevention Month. A national poll conducted in 2020 found that while 95% of Americans surveyed would do something if someone close to them was thinking about suicide, almost 70% of respondents identified barriers that keep them from discussing suicide with others. These barriers included not knowing what to say, not knowing where to turn for help, feeling they don’t have enough knowledge, or not feeling comfortable with the topic. 09/25/2022 05:00 AM
