David Puryear

David Puryear is a native of Austin, a fifth-generation Texan, and senior justice on the Texas Third Court of Appeals is a Republican candidate currently seeking re-election for the position of Justice, 3rd Court of Appeals District, Place 5. He was re-elected twice to his current position in 2000, 2006 and 2012. Prior to his election to the Third Court of Appeals, Justice Puryear served as Deputy Director, Special Crimes Division under prior Attorney General John Cornyn, where he supervised lawyers in the prosecution of various felony offenses. Puryear also serves on the Texas multi-district litigation panel, by appointment of the Chief Justice of the Texas Supreme Court.  Prior to serving at a state-level capacity, Puryear was Judge of Travis County Court at Law No. 6, from 1991- 1998.  He earned his Bachelors degree from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas in 1978. He also earned is J.D. from Texas Tech University School of Law in 1983.
