Jimmy Blacklock

Jimmy Blacklock is a 2018 Republican candidate seeking re-election to the position of Justice, Supreme Court, Place 2. Blacklock was born in Houston, and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in History at the University of Texas at Austin in 2002 as well as his J.D. from Yale Law School in 2005. Blacklock was appointed by Governor Greg Abbott to the position of Justice, Texas Supreme Court, District 2 in January 2nd, 2018. His current professional experience includes General Counsel to the Governor of Texas (2015-present) and Deputy Attorney General for Legal Counsel to the Texas Attorney General (2012-present). Prior to his current position of Justice, Supreme Court, Place 2, Blacklock was Special Assistant and Senior Counsel to the Texas Attorney General (2010-2012), Assistant Solicitor General to the Texas Attorney General (2009-2010), Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General, U.S. Department of Justice (2008-2009) and Law Clerk for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit for Judge Jerry E. Smith (2005-2006).  He was employed at Attorney, Vinson and Elkins as an attorney from 2006-2009.
