Walt Smith

Walt Smith is a 2018 Republican candidate seeking election to the position of County Commissioner Pct. 4. Smith earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Texas A&M University, and is a Dripping Springs resident and is a local business owner. He previously worked in the George W. Bush Administration before starting his consulting practice The Mallard Group in 2007. In 2015, he founded Texans United for Hunting and Fishing Rights. In addition, his firm works to promote Texas job growth and support recovery efforts for victims of child sex trafficking. Smith also serves as Chief Executive Officer for the National Association of Agriculture and Food Policy, and Chief Financial Officer for the National Association for the Advancement of Animal Sciences. He previously oversaw strategic outreach for the National Rural Water Association. Smith is very involved in the Dripping Springs community in organizations such as the Dripping Springs Education Foundation Board of Directors, Leadership Dripping Springs Steering Committee, Dripping Springs Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee, Dripping Springs Wild Game Charitable Dinner Executive Committee, and chairing Christmas on Mercer. He was honored as the 2017 “Lion of the Year” by the Dripping Springs Lions Club, and has volunteered at Walnut Springs Elementary School, and with the Dripping Springs Youth Sports Association.
