Come Cinco with Centro and five amigo restaurants

Sunday, April 25, 2021

Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos and five local restaurants have partnered to help celebrate the historic date of Cinco de Mayo — May 5. The event will be held this year once again, due to COVID, as a lunchtime curbside fundraiser to help boost the economic health of our local businesses and support Centro’s programs for children, summer camps and operational needs.

Participating restaurants are: Casa María, Gil’s Broiler, Mana’s Restaurant, Taquería La Fonda and Toma Taco

Tickets are $20 each and will be sold through Friday, April 30 at 5 p.m. or until all tickets are sold out.

Visit Ticket Sale Site at bit.ly/ CentroCinco. For menu description at each restaurant, plate and pick-up time selection, and for payment. Each plate purchase will be entered into a raffle for a new 50-inch TV.

The annual Cinco de Mayo celebration is held in commemoration of the Mexican army’s 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War (1861-1867). Although not a major strategic win in the overall war against the French, Zaragoza’s success at Puebla represented a great symbolic victory for the Mexican government and bolstered the resistance movement.

Typically, in the United States, Cinco de Mayo is celebrated by Mexican American communities, their friends, and neighbors of various heritages. If it were not for the pandemic, the occasion would be marked with parades, festivities, mariachi music, baile folklórico dances and traditional food.

Please come celebrate this historic day. For more information, please contact Centro directly at 512-878-0640 or by email at Centro@SanMarcosCentro.Org.
