“But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up”

Ecclesiastes 4:10 (NIV)

The story of two soldiers is an example of selfless friendship. During WW II, a U.S. Army group was ambushed. One seriously wounded soldier laid under the enemy’s fire, unable to move. The officer in charge determined the risk was too great for a Rescue, but the wounded man’s friend disregarded the order and ran to rescue his Buddy. The soldier who had disregarded the order returned severely wounded but carrying his friend, who had died on the field of combat. The commanding Officer, crying, yelled, “I told you not to go. Now, I have lost two good men. It wasn’t worth it.” The severely wounded soldier looked up and gasped, “Sir, it was worth it, because when I got to him, he whispered, ‘Jim, I knew you’d come’.”
