The Journey Continues: Veterans Patrol

Sunday, October 24, 2021

My journey this week is a return visit to the Veterans Patrol, a faithbased organization in San Marcos with the mission of “Veterans standing together in faith to support each other for inner peace.” Veterans share a camaraderie and warmth of brotherhood when they meet. I always say, “I know your heart due to our unique military experiences.”

The three core values of Veterans Patrol are:

1. The group exists for veterans of all services, ranks, ethnic groups, races, genders, economic groups because Christ is for all people.

2. The group is for veterans seeking Inner Peace.

3. The group is based on comradeship and willingness to help each other.

We recall the words found in John 15:13: “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friend.” We do service projects for fellow veterans as well as sharing a wealth of knowledge with each other on resources.

Monday night, Oct. 25, at 7 pm at First Baptist Church, 325 W. McCarty Lane, we’ll continue our speaker series with Mr. J.D. Elshoff sharing his journey. Elshoff served with the United States Marine Corps,1964-1968, with a tour in Vietnam with the Marine Reconnaissance. Presently he is a Chief Warrant Officer, Chaplain, for the Texas State Guard.

The Veterans Patrol meets the fourth Monday each month as a focus group, with members from many denominations as well as unchurched members. During the meetings a veteran may share his journey of faith. This excerpt from The Marine Gazette illustrates why we say, I’ve got your back.
