Mardi Gras Krewe donates instruments to Goodnight Middle School

Sunday, November 15, 2020

The Krewe of Okeanos, producers of the annual San Marcos Mardi Gras Parade, donated three new musical instruments — two flutes and a trumpet — to the SMCISD Goodnight Middle School Band Program. The donation is part of the Krewe’s philanthropic mission to enhance Arts initiatives in the community through their Musical Instrument Program for local school children, and is funded through generous financial contributions by Okeanos Krewe members, in partnership with La Cima.

“Music is not only an integral part of Mardi Gras celebrations world-wide, but an important part of life and culture. We are proud to contribute to the development of the next generation of musicians,” said Wayne Kraemer, a member of the Krewe’s Board of Directors. The instruments, purchased from Strait Music in Austin, will be used by beginning music students to learn and develop their talents without encumbering the financial burdens associated with the purchase of a musical instrument. The Krewe of Okeanos (d.b.a. Texas Council for Music and the Arts Inc.) was founded in 2011 and is a non-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation.
