Price Center issues art call for 2020 exhibit

Friday, December 20, 2019

The winter months of January and February feature more than just New Year celebrations (and resolutions) and Valentine’s Day roses and chocolates.  Think Polar Bear Plunges, Mardi Gras, Martin Luther King Jr’s birthday, Black History Month, Presidents Day, Chinese New Year parades, American Heart Month, Random Acts of Kindness Day and more.

The Price Center will host a new art exhibit in January and February 2020 called “What’s Love Got to Do with It?”

Area artists are invited to submit up to two works of original art (2-D or 3-D) that centers on what inspires them in January and February.

Entries will be accepted Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 6 and 7, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.  The exhibit will run from Saturday, Jan. 11 to Saturday, Feb. 22. A reception is planned for the evening of Thursday, Jan. 30.

The Price Center’s rotating art shows are made possible in part through grant funds from the San Marcos Arts Commission. Proceeds from application fees and a portion of any sales benefit the Price Center, which is operated by the Greater San Marcos Area Seniors Association (GSMASA), a 501c3 nonprofit.

If you’re planning to make a year-end gift to a local charity, giving to the Price Center is a way to also give back to the entire community. Financial gifts help sustain operations, repair equipment, and underwrite any number of the Price Center’s ongoing free programs, including seven dance classes offered each week, regular musical performances, art activities, workshops and more.

“Selfless gifts of time and money have been at the heart of the Price Center’s operation since its inception,” Executive Director Clay DeStefano said. “From the initial donation of the building over 20 years ago to almost $1 million in donated services, goods, furnishings and time since, today’s Price Center only exists because of the kindness and volunteer efforts of others.”

As a nonprofit, the center funds its operation through annual dues from members of the GSMASA, private donations, grants and revenues generated from the rental of various venues by private individuals, businesses and organizations.
