This week, step into a world of pure imagination with Roald Dahl’s classic “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” which opens at the Bass Concert Hall on Tuesday.
Evelyn Brister, a 1988 graduate of San Marcos High School, will return to her hometown to participate in the Philosophy Dialogue Series at the San Marcos Public Library on Wednesday, March 23 from 3:30 - 5 p.m. on the topic “Democracy and the Promise of the Future.”
For the fourth consecutive year, women and their art are being celebrated in conjunction with International Women’s Day in San Marcos. Event founder, Debangana Banerjee, the Price Center Arts Committee, and local artist Jennifer Epperson have put together “No Limits,” an all-women’s art show and a series of events to gather, celebrate, share and learn more about the female experience March 5 – April 23.
Spring is in the air and that means the Hands of Hope Tea ‘N More is returning. An anticipated event over the past 17 years, this high tea has raised funds for the all-volunteer, ecumenical ministry that has helped to change the lives of over 150 women and their families.

There has been a lot of love in the world of petunias over the past couple of years, thanks to one very unique variety — Supertunia Lovie Dovie. We have all seen petunias: some with stripes, some stars, others halos and blushes, but there is a special one with hearts.

When I visited the Galapagos Islands many years ago, members of our group enjoyed walking along a black sand beach and wading out into the cool ocean water. But we were hesitant to wade out too far, because we had been told the area had a robust population of hammerhead sharks.
