City accepting requests for funding

The city is now accepting Human Service Agency applications for funding for 2019-2020 budget allocations.  Applications are due by noon on Feb. 15.

Agencies may pick up an application from the Finance Department in the Municipal Building, 630 E. Hopkins or download from the city's website. No late submissions will be considered.

The Human Services Advisory Board will review applications and make its recommendations to the city council in the spring. The council will decide allocations in its budget process that will be concluded in September 2019. Funding will be for the fiscal year from Oct. 1, 2019 to Sept. 30, 2020.

Council has allocated approximately $500,000 from the General Fund to assist programs of local social service agencies in recent budgets. City funding may not exceed 50 percent of the funding sources for applicants.

Agencies funded in 2018-19 include Hays County Area Food Bank, San Marcos Housing Authority, San Marcos Youth Service Bureau, Southside Community Center, Hays Caldwell Women’s Center, School Fuel, Combined Community Action, Scheib Opportunity Center, Hays County Homespun-Any Baby Can, Greater San Marcos Youth Council, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, CASA of Central Texas, Community Action, Cenikor Foundation, Nosotros La Gente, Lifelong Learning, Hays County Child Protective Board, SMCISD and Salvation Army.

To participate in the application process, an agency must meet the following criteria:

1.  Must be a Human Services agency as defined by the San Marcos City Council.

2. Must be overseen by a volunteer board of directors.

3. Must provide services in the San Marcos area.

4. Must establish that it is performing a needed service to the community not provided by any other agency.

5. Must execute an agency agreement with the city.

6. Must have measurable goals and agree to undergo periodic program evaluations by the Human Services Advisory Board or city staff.

7. Must have letters of support from members of the San Marcos community.
