City continuing its ‘Best Friends for Life’ program at library

Sunday, February 24, 2019

The city’s Parks and Recreation Department is teaming up with Texas State University to continue its inclusive recreation program, Best Friends For Life (BFFL). The program is free and open to youth, ages 2-13, of all ability levels. BFFL will take place at the San Marcos Activity Center, located at 501 E. Hopkins.

Participants will meet on Mondays from 5:30-6:30 p.m. beginning on Feb. 25 and will continue every subsequent Monday except during the week of spring break.

The last date for this program is April 1. Participants are encouraged to bring their best friend, whether that be their mom, dad, brother, sister, school friend or neighbor. Yoga, crafts, games and drumming are some of the activities that will be offered during the program. Participants will also have the opportunity to go swimming and horseback riding.

Dr. Lyn Litche of Texas State University and her therapeutic recreation students will bring Drums Alive DRUMTASTIC® as an exciting addition to the BFFL program. DRUMTASTIC® is an evidence-based program that is designed to improve the health of children and pre-teens by applying educational concepts, fitness, drumming, music and fitness.

Dr. Litchke, along with several of her students, is a certified master trainer in DRUMTASTIC®.
