The San Marcos CISD board of trustees will consider awarding a bid for the demolition of the old SMCISD central office building, located at 501 S. LBJ Dr.

At its meeting Monday night, the board will consider a bid for the demolition project, along with abatement, and alternates for the demolition of some portable buildings at the site.

SMCISD workers had to abandon the old building because of mold and other air quality issues. Administrative offices have been housed off Uhland Road, and school board meetings are being held at the high school.

According to the SMCISD agenda for Monday night, the building was tested for asbestos and several areas came back positive. The cost for demolition and abatement for the central office and old playground is $137,450. To demolish an old portable attached to the current Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos and replace the wall would cost an additional $48,000. The cost of demolishing the portable building formerly used by School Fuel would cost $9,000. District staff is recommending that the board approve all the expenditures, for a total of $194,450.

In other business, the board will consider approval of the design development for the Child Development Center and the guaranteed maximum price from Cadence McShane for upcoming work at the Hernandez, Mendez, Crockett, Travis and Bowie elementary campuses. The guaranteed maximum price is about $40,000 below budget.

The board is also set to consider entering into a land donation agreement with La Cima. No further details on the potential agreement were available.

The board will meet at 6 p.m. Monday in the Criminal Justice Classroom of San Marcos High School, 2601 Rattler Rd.
