Donovan Keith tonight at Summer in the Park

Thursday, July 12, 2018

Austin-based soul singer Donovan Keith will perform at tonight’s Summer in the Park concert at San Marcos Plaza Park at 7:30 p.m.

Keith offers powerful and riveting vocals that pull from influences like Little Richard and Al Green, and has an infectious and frenetic showmanship that involves a lot of fancy footwork and energy.

Keith moved to Austin in 2008, where he built his first band Soul Track Mind. Soul Track Mind grew into an outlet for Keith’s love of soul and Rhythm & Blues music. Under his showmanship and songwriting, Soul Track Mind went on to produce three albums, one EP and several singles.

After Soul Track Mind released its third album, “Unbreakable” in 2014, Keith decided to launch into the next stage of his career: a solo project. Keith’s new project keeps with his signature soul sound and incorporates a full seven-piece band with brass, bass and piano filling out the songs with Motown, jazz and even some swing music stylings.

“My influences have always been a lot of classic soul – Motown, Stax, Sam Cooke, Otis Redding and Al Green, so I try to draw a lot of that into my songwriting and my vocals,” Keith said. “But I’m also a swing dancer so some of the songs have a jazzy feel.”

Keith just released his first solo EP entitled “Carry Me On” in early 2018 – available on iTunes and Spotify.

Donovan Keith will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. and play until 9:30 p.m. at the San Marcos Plaza Park.

The show goes on rain or shine, though if it rains the show will move to the San Marcos Activity Center.
