Downtown businesses’ alcohol sales win approval

Zoning Changes
Friday, July 27, 2018

Three popular downtown businesses got the go-ahead from the Planning and Zoning Commission to continue selling alcohol, with two of those businesses also requesting a name change.

The Hive will become The Vault, a name it operated under until an administrative name change in 2016. Sinners & Saints, which was located in the back of the same building as The Vault, will be replaced with Sake Bar and Bistro. The two businesses operate under the same Texas Alcoholic Beverages Commission license and the same restaurant conditional use permit (CUP). At its meeting Tuesday night, P&Z renewed the restaurant CUP to serve mixed beverages for three years.

Blue Dahlia also received a three-year renewal for its restaurant CUP to serve beer and wine. The restaurant has been in business for nearly a year.

“That place is the bomb-diggity,” resident Lisa Marie Coppoletta said in speaking in favor of the CUP renewal. “What they have done is an exemplar case study of what should be done downtown.”

City staff said the police department had no complaints or concerns about The Vault, Sake Bar and Bistro or Blue Dahlia.

In other business Tuesday night, P&Z approved a final plat and two preliminary plats for tracts in the Blanco Vista subdivision. The final plat, for about 30 acres located west of Blanco Vista Boulevard, also includes a subdivision improvement agreement.

The final plat will allow for the development of 99 residential lots and two lots that are designated as open space and drainage easements.
