Lucio Park bridge to be replaced; dog park due upgrade

Park Improvements

The San Marcos City Council last week approved contracts for work in several parks around the city, including the reconstruction of a pedestrian bridge in Ramon Lucio Park.

“I just wanted to alert the public that this bridge is going to be reconstructed,” Mayor Pro Tem Lisa Prewitt said. “It’s been out for about three years.”

The contract for the bridge project went to Fence Lady Inc. and was estimated at $263,106.05, funded by Texas Municipal League insurance.

Other projects include improvements at the Dog Park, which will be paid for with $116.184 of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds, improvements at Dunbar Park, which the city will pay for with $232,468 of CDBG funds, and design work at the Adult Softball Complex at the Gary Sports Complex for $269,500.

Council also approved a contract with the Jacobs Project Management Company for construction management services with a maximum estimated value of $2.299 million.

“The principal focus of this contract is to deal with the bond projects we have under way,” council member Scott Gregson said.

Assistant City Manager Steve Parker said that Jacobs has experience with projects like the bond initiatives.

“We want to have good, quality projects that are delivered timely and in the best manner to save our citizens’ money,” Parker said. “... We want to have a company that’s going to be looking out for our best interests.”
