SMHS student found with gun jailed

San Marcos CISD

The San Marcos CISD declined to comment further Friday on an incident involving a student who brought a handgun to San Marcos High School.

In a letter to parents posted on social media, the district said that a staff member at SMHS called an administrator to a classroom Friday morning regarding a student who was potential under the influence of some unknown substance.

“Campus administrators brought the student into a secured setting with the School Resource Officer,” the message read. “During the course of searching the student, the student notified the administrator about the handgun and was placed under arrest.

“The Marcos Police Department and the SMHS administrators followed safety protocols in place and identified the situation as an isolated incident. The campus returned to their regular schedule for the remainder of the school day.”

“We’re transparent in the letter and laid it all out,” the district’s Executive Director of Communications Andrew Fernandez said in declining to say more about the incident, which remains under investigation.
