3 from Wimberley killed in crash

Many in the Wimberley Valley community were reeling Monday in the wake of a three-car collision last Friday that killed three Wimberley residents.

Daniel Stuart Masullo, 44, his wife Angela Mary Masullo, 40, and Ramiro Rodriguez, 22, were pronounced dead at the scene by Hays County Justice of the Peace Andrew Cable. Two children were taken to South Austin Medical Center and one person was treated at the scene.

According to DPS Trooper Robbie Barrera, it happened at approximately 8:09 p.m. on Ranch Road 12 three miles out of San Marcos near Hugo Road.

Barrera said a 2006 Nissan Titan with Ramirez at the wheel was driving on the wrong side of the road and struck a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse driven by 63-year-old Elizabeth Kay Richter of New Braunfels. The car spun 180 degrees and skidded along a guardrail before coming to a stop. The Nissan continued in the southbound lane and hit a 2007 Lincoln containing the Masullo family head-on. The Nissan then caught fire and the Lincoln came to rest on top of a guardrail.

Ramirez graduated from Wimberley High School in 2014. Angela Masullo worked as the office manager for Wimberley Wellness, which posted on Facebook that they would be closed for a week to grieve.

“Angela brought warmth, compassion and humor into our clinic every day,” the post said. “She was irreplaceable in so many ways, and within the clinic, the importance of her role as office manager could not be overstated. Angela was also the sister to our primary care provider Gabria Cathcart, for whom we ask that you sen your love and support during this time of incredible loss.”

Dan Masullo was one of the owners of The Junction Drinkery and Eatery.

“Dan and Angela, every path you crossed made everyone’s life better,” a Facebook post from the restaurant said. “You will dearly be missed but never forgotten.”

Richter was treated and releases by paramedics at the scene, and the Masullo children were taken to South Austin Medical Center. According to a GoFundMe post, (Masullo Family Fund), both were in critical condition as of Sunday.
