5 killed when Texas pickup strikes tree, bursts into flames

Tuesday, August 6, 2019

FORT WORTH (AP) — Police in North Texas say five people died when a pickup truck that was traveling too fast left a roadway, struck a tree and burst into flames.

Investigators in Fort Worth say it's not clear what caused the pickup to leave the road early Monday near Interstate 35 north of downtown.

They say the pickup was engulfed in flames and the victims couldn't immediately be identified.

Authorities say a homeless person staying in a nearby tent suffered burns and was taken to a Dallas hospital for treatment.

The investigation into the crash is continuing.
