Celebrate Mardi Gras in downtown San Marcos
Following the Mistick Krewe of Okeanos neighborhood parade, the festivities extend into Downtown San Marcos. The Downtown Association of San Marcos (DASM) invites everyone to join in the Mardi Gras Downtown celebration during its inaugural 2024 activation. Embrace the spirit of Mardi Gras as local businesses roll out themed specials, delectable food and entertaining performances. Various Downtown Association members of San Marcos will participate in a storefront decorating contest, dressing up their facades into energized, fun and artistic displays that extend a warm welcome.
In collaboration with the Mistick Krewe of Okeanos, DASM presents exclusive commemorative totes (pictued at right.) Participating businesses will offer doubloons at checkout to be gifted to patrons. Gather three 2024 doubloons from different participating establishments and redeem them for a limited-edition tote at DASM tables. The tables will be stationed at the Historic Downtown Courthouse corners from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on February 10. Please note that only 50 totes will be available, and they will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
Each year the Krewe of Okeanos produces an official Mardi Gras poster. The commemorative tote features the 2024 Krewe of Okeanos poster by local artist Tony Belmonte. Additionally, past years artist posters will be available for purchase at the DASM tables. THE PARADE
The Krewe of Okeanos' 11th annual Mardi Gras parade will roll through the historic districts of San Marcos at noon February 10 featuring bands, floats, beads and a good time. The Krewe brought Mardi Gras to San Marcos with a ball in 2012. The first parade was held the following year and has rolled every year since, with the exception of the COVID year. The parade is sponsored by La Cima, Germer Insurance, Divided Sky Roofing & Solar, Zelick's and Jack's Roadhouse.
