City council makes boards and commissions nominations

Deloitte and Touche, LLP did a presentation on the Quarterly Internal Audit, mandated by the federal government, on the use of the Community Development Disaster Recovery block grant and provided direction to staff. “I’d like to congratulate the city, they’ve been doing a great job in the last few quarters,” A Deloitte and Touche, LLP employee said. The only improvement suggested by the company was a recommendation to incorporate the issuance of award or denial letters to the process of informal procurements. The city council met Tuesday at City Hall.

The council unanimously approved the submission of participation forms to the Attorney General of the State of Texas for the settlement in connection to the opioid distributors Allergan, Walmart, Walgreens and CVS. “There was an ACH deposit form, so we should be receiving a little over $300,000 soon,” Assistant City Manager Chase Stapp said, “We would like to find a local partner that would help us with the treatment and prevention component” which he believes is the most acceptable use of this funding. “I appreciate you all for pursuing more opportunities to procure funding to tackle this very serious issue,” City Council Member Alyssa Garza said.

The council unanimously approved $1,027,778 to go toward a 2024 Spartan PumperTruck from Metro Fire Apparatus Specialists for the fire department. The council awarded a contract to Aaron Concrete Contractors, LLC for $3,152,030 for the Hills of Hays drainage improvement project. “This is another neighborhood that has needed this drainage project for a long time,” Mayor Pro Tem-Mark Gleason said. They also awarded a $264,074 contract to Blackrock Construction for the “IH35S Water Improvements - Clovis project, and they approved continued funding for the Police Departments Victim Services program.

The council voted for Mayor Jane Hughson to continue her service on the Board of Directors of the Alliance Regional Water Authority. Nominations for boards and commissions were as follows, Nathan Garza for Cemetery Commission, Rosie Morris and Jeffrey Smithson for Ethics Commission, Dwayne Riley for Main Street, James Cruz for Neighborhood Commission, Johanna Whitt for Parking Advisory Board, Antonio Jaime for Senior Citizen Advisory Board and Victoria Briones Magallanez for Zoning Board of Adjustments.
