Commissioners Court honors nurse practitioners

Tuesday, November 20, 2018

The Hays County Commissioners Court proclaimed the week of Nov. 11-17 as Nurse Practitioners Week in Texas at its Nov. 13 meeting, and thanked NPs for the valuable medical care they give throughout Hays County and the state.

In Hays County, some 85 NPs work permanently in medical offices, hospitals and care centers, while many others handle part-time duties here.

According to the proclamation, in addition to diagnosing and treating acute and chronic conditions, NPs focus on health promotion, disease prevention and health education and counseling, guiding patients to make smarter health and lifestyle choices. They provide primary, acute and specialty care to patients of all ages and walks of life. There are more than one billion annual patient visits made to NPs across the country.

Several NPs serve Hays County residents at the Live Oak Health Partnership, 401 Broadway, which partners with Hays County to provide health care to insured, under-insured and non-insured Hays County residents.
