Commissioners to discuss grant application in special meeting

The Hays County Commissioners Court has scheduled a special meeting for 2 p.m. today to discuss and possibly take action on a grant to fund a public defenders office in Hays County. The court initially discussed submitting a grant application to the Texas Indigent Defense Commission on Tuesday but delayed a vote to allow time to reach out to judges and others who would be affected by the creation of a public defenders office. A spokesperson for the county said on Tuesday that County Judge Ruben Becerra expected the special meeting to last about 30 minutes. 

The meeting will be held in the historic Hays County Courthouse in Room 301.
