Community leader will serve on Workforce Investment Council

The President and CEO of United Way of Hays and Caldwell Counties, Michelle Harper, was one of five Texans recently appointed to the Texas Workforce Investment Council.

Her appointment to the council by Gov. Greg Abbott is for a term that will expire on Sept. 1, 2025.

According to a press release, the Texas Workforce Investment Council engages in a collaborative, systematic view of workforce development programs throughout the state and provides planning, evaluation, research, and other functions related to 19 workforce programs.

The council is composed of 19 members from across the state. These individuals serve at the request of the governor, who is responsible for appointing 14 members who are principal representatives of business and industry, organized labor, education and community-based organizations.

The remaining five members are ex-officio representatives from the council's member state agencies, the press release stated.

Harper is the president and chief executive officer of United Way of Hays and Caldwell counties.

She also serves as vice chair of the San Marcos Academy Bear Network.

Additionally, Harper is board secretary for the Master’s School of the San Marcos Foundation, and is a board member for the First United Methodist Church of San Marcos Foundation.

She is a volunteer assistant tennis and basketball coach for San Marcos Academy.

Harper received a bachelor of arts in Mass Communication and Public Relations from then Southwest Texas State University, now Texas State University, and she is the recipient of a teacher's certificate from Texas State University.

Harper lives in San Marcos with her husband, Greg, and their son Bryce, a freshman at San Marcos Academy.
