County to adopt several proclamations
Five proclamations are on the Hays County Commissioners Court docket this week.
If approved, the proclamations will declare October 2019 as Meditation Awareness Month, declare Oct. 4 as National Manufacturing Day and October as National Manufacturing Month, declare October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, declare Oct. 1 as National Night Out and declare Oct. 12 as Indigenous People’s Day.
In other business, the County will hear a presentation on Conservation Subdivision Development by Caitlyn Strickland, Development Services and Alexandra Thompson, Office of Countywide Services.
Commissioners will consider approval of a resolution in support of the Driftwood Historical Conservation Society's effort to have the legislature recognize William B. Travis Heritage League Survey with an Undertold Historical designation commemorative plaque.
The court will discuss the formation of a new Parks and Open Spaces Advisory Board, a review of existing parks and an update to the 2012 Hays County Parks, Open Spaces and Natural Area Master Plan.
According to the agenda item, “The 2012 Hays County Parks, Open Space and Natural Areas Master Plan was the result of a comprehensive process led by the county and consultant team. This process included a review of existing county documents, focus-group input, Hays County Park POSAB input and review, citizen participation, commissioner input and county staff input and review from January to October 2011. From this phased process, a list of recommendations for the County’s parks and open space system as a whole, as well as each of the county’s six parks was created.”
Commissioners will take possible action to execute several Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) related to the Veteran’s Treatment Court. If approved, the MOUs will be executed between the Hays County Veteran’s Treatment Court and Be Well Mental Health, PLLC, Counselink, Inc.. Professional Service, LLC and YouImprove Integrative Counseling Services.
Commissioners will vote to accept a grant from the Texas Indigent Defense Commission (TIDC) for an Indigent Defense Coordinator “who improves the appointment process and provides documentation that Hays County is in compliance with the Fair Defense Act.” The $61,134 grant will require a $15,335 match by the county. The court will vote to execute an interlocal agreement with Burnet County that will increase the per diem rate for inmate outsourcing from $40 to $45 per day and increased the guard service rate from $35 per hour per guard to $40 per hour per guard.
The Hays County Commissioners Court meets Tuesdays on the third floor of the Hays County Historic Courthouse at 9 a.m.
