In the recent 2022 Texas Better Newspaper Contest awards presentation held in June in Round Rock by the Texas Press Association, the San Marcos Daily Record received a 1st Place Special Section, 1st Place Headline Writing, 3rd Place Feature Writing, 3rd Place News Writing and a 3rd Place for Sports Photography. Current staff members display the two 1st Place plaques.
