Hays County Caucus slates program on toxic waste issues

Tuesday, November 19, 2019

The Hays County Women’s Political Caucus will feature Robin Schneider, executive director of the Texas Campaign for the Environment (TCE), at its program meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 5:30 p.m. at the LBJ Museum of San Marcos, 131 N. Guadalupe St.

She will address toxic waste issues in Texas and Hays County and the ongoing work of TCE to clean up the environment. The program is open to the public.

Under Schneider’s leadership, TCE has been leading corporate, local, state and national campaigns on Zero Waste strategies and producer takeback recycling and working to hold the waste industry accountable to neighbors and community at-large.

TCE has participated in a range of other campaigns on responsible drilling, pressuring retail companies to have their suppliers adopt safer chemicals policies, closing the Grandfather Loophole in the Texas Clean Air Act and other efforts.

TCE Fund has investigated and written a major report on how the state environmental agency handles pollution complaints from the public and tracked results from electronics producer takeback recycling policies and programs. Schneider participated in the EPEAT standard-setting process for televisions and printers, serving on the Corporate Performance Work Group.

In her career, Schneider has also worked as a Civil Rights investigator, a WorldTeach volunteer English teacher in Thailand, executive director of the California Abortion Rights Action League, and as a legislative fellow for a California Assembly member.

Founded in 1973, the Hays County Women’s Political Caucus is a local branch of the National Women’s Political Caucus. The organizations are multi-partisan and focus on increasing women’s political power base. The Hays County Caucus is the largest chapter in Texas.

The organization strives to increase women’s participation in the political process and to identify, recruit, train and support progressive feminist candidates for election and appointment to public office.

The HCWPC supports equality for all women; equal rights for all individuals regardless of race, age, gender, religion, ethnic origin, ability, sexual orientation or immigration status; reproductive freedom and health care services; quality dependent care; and the eradication of violence, poverty and discrimination on any basis.
