Hays County Women’s Political Caucus preparing for upcoming Legislature

Thursday, November 22, 2018

The Hays County Women’s Political Caucus will feature Stephanie Korcheck, a 30-year veteran of state government and nonprofit, education-related organizations, at its meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 5:30 p.m. at the LBJ Museum of San Marcos, 131 N. Guadalupe St.

Korcheck will offer advice on how to work effectively with the Texas Legislature during its upcoming 86th session beginning Jan. 8. Bill filing has already begun following the Nov. 6 midterm elections. Erin Zwiener, a caucus-endorsed candidate, was elected as the new District 45 State Representative for Hays and Blanco counties.

With 30 years of experience in state government and nonprofit education-related organizations, Korcheck gained expertise in education policy and law, advocacy, and strategic communications.

As the policy analyst for the Senate Education Committee from 1992-1996, Korcheck helped create Texas’ public school accountability and school finance systems and, during the 1995 legislative session, a rewrite of the entire Texas Education Code. She then helped create the State Board for Educator Certification as director of policy and planning.

At Texas State University, she served as an adjunct professor from 2001-2006 in the principal preparation program, teaching a course on politics, policymaking, education law, and the school finance and accountability systems.

She now serves as the College of Education’s Research coordinator for proposal development, supporting faculty members in securing funding for their research.
