HCSO getting more money for traffic enforcement

Sunday, September 30, 2018

Local leadfoots had better watch out.

The Hays County Sheriff’s Office has secured a $50,000 grant from Texas Department of Transportation for a Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Comprehensive Grant for fiscal year 2019, which begins Monday.

The grant will help fund the deployment of additional officers on county roadways to enforce speeding, seatbelt violations, distracted driving laws and DWI operations. The goal of the project is to reduce the number of alcohol and speed related crashes, injuries and fatalities.

In addition to enforcement activities, funding provides for various public information and educational efforts such as traffic safety presentations at community events, schools and other venues.
